Home. It’s a place that we all long for, wait to get back to at the end of the day. A place where we are comfortable, and eat the best food ever. There’s nothing quite like it. There are however, some restaurants that can feel like home, even when they’re packed to the brim with customers, Tommy’s Restaurant, located in Hampton, Virginia, is such a place.
Now, you won’t get that feeling of home while waiting in one of the often times lines that springs up outside this local’s favorite, but when you finally get in the doors and take a look around inside, you’ll feel like you’re at your grandma’s house waiting for one of her specialties.
And what’s her specialty? Well that depends on what you’re in the mood for. They have an extensive menu covering breakfast and lunch type foods, which you can get at any point during their hours of operation from 6 am to 3 pm.
My first trip into Tommy’s, it was a tough choice for me to make for what my meal would be. There’s so many options from all types of pancakes or waffles to sandwiches to seafood. In the end I decided to go with the Philly Cheesesteak, as I was feeling a craving for the local food of my college years.
What arrived in a pretty comfortable amount of time, especially for how packed the place was, was one of the better Cheesesteaks I’ve had outside of Philly. The fries did need some salt, but were hot and crispy otherwise. The melty cheese perfectly accented the saltiness of the beef, and the bread was toasted to perfection as well.
Had I not filled up on this meal I’d have stuck around for their dessert selections including a buttermilk pie that sounded intriguing. I’ll definitely be returning again, and would recommend you do as well, if you’re in the Hampton, Virginia area.
