Welcome back fellow geeks and new readers alike, to the first Reel Geek’s Trailer Talk that’s title rhymes. We’re talking today about the new trailer for Marvel’s upcoming Thor:Ragnarok. I’ve loved the Thor movies myself, both of them so far, and I love that each one had a different feel to it, this one especially has an overall feel of fun to it that hasn’t been really felt in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie that isn’t a Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Well, in case you missed the trailer, or just want to watch it again, like I just did, here it is.
Wow, that is just a really fun trailer. Who would have thought the end of the Asgardian world would be so awesome. Right from the colorful Marvel logos we’re brought into this video game like, comic book, sci fi, fantasy, heavy metal world that we’re going to in this movie, and then we here the opening notes of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” Best use of that song since Jack Black’s intro in School of Rock.
We get to see a bit of Cate Blanchett’s (Lord Of The Rings) Hela in action, and in full helmet and everything, as she starts the destruction of Asgard, and she just blows up Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer, like it was nothing. Craziness. We also get quick flashes of the battle to try to save Asgard, and even Loki is on the same side here, which I’m sure this all probably just interfered with his plan of ruling Asgard in Odin’s guise, as we left him in the last Thor adventure. So of course he’ll be fighting to save his kingdom.
And then we hit the transition into the cosmic world of the MCU normally left for the Guardians of the Galaxy to play around in as we see the alien ships, and worlds held under the power of the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). In the comics, he, and his brother The Collector (Benecio Del Toro) are immortals of the universe, and often pit heroes and villains against each other in games of cosmic chess. No word if we get to see him in this movie or not, but this is already a pretty crowded story as it is, melding the Ragnarok story with a bit of Planet Hulk in there as well.
That’s right The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) is back in action. Thor’s reaction to seeing his fellow Avenger is priceless, “Yeeaaah! I know him.. he’s a friend from work!” Before The Hulk charges at him full force, before trailer’s end. I was already kind of excited about this movie to begin with, but this trailer just fully sold me on it. Can’t wait til November now. What’d you guys think of the trailer?
