Welcome to the 200th post on the guide! I’m glad that this post gets to talk about one of the most important and awaited comic book movies since well, last week’s Wonder Woman. It’s time to talk about the trailer to next February’s Black Panther. As usual, if you missed the trailer, here it is.
I was hoping we’d see something soon for this movie, but was still surprised yesterday morning to see a teaser poster, with the promise of a trailer during the NBA Finals Game 4 that night.
I was already excited for this movie since they said it was to be directed by Ryan Coogler (Creed) but then they announced the cast for this movie, and it just got better with each announcement. Michael B. Jordan (Creed) , Lupita Nyongo (12 Years A Slave) Dania Gurira (The Walking Dead) and more! I was like, this is going to be an important comic book movie in terms of representation, and I’d hoped that we’d get to really see the world of Wakanda come to life.
And in this trailer, we totally do. We see that T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman-42) will have to contend with a few villains this time out, including Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis-Lord of the Rings, Age of Ultron) , Erik Killmonger-Michael B. Jordan, as well as M’Baku also known in the comics as Man Ape (Winston Duke-Modern Family)
I love the sequence in the trailer of Black Panther taking down a group of criminals so effortlessly, like Bruce Lee x100 . And just the glimpses into this world we get here, the style and look of it all feel right, from the little I’ve read of the comic book roots of the character so far.
I’m hoping we get to see some more of his female bodyguards The Dora Milaje, as they play an important role in the recent Ta Nehisi Coates run on the comic, which I totally recommend to anyone who loved the character in Captain America:Civil War and aren’t super into reading comics yet but want to know more about the characters.
All of this in the trailer set to a Run The Jewels song called “Legend Has It” which really fits the theme and style of the movie. I’m already expecting this soundtrack for this movie to be pure fire, as the soundtrack to Coogler’s last movie, Creed was and still is in my workout playlist and is full of bangers from the first track to the last.
I can’t wait for more about this movie, and I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing this trailer on the big screen in front of Spider-Man:Homecoming in a few weeks.
