How the Skrulls could be a sign of something much bigger to come in the MCU

It was announced at Comicon that the upcoming Captain Marvel movie starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers would be a period piece set in the 90s, with the villains of the film being Marvel's shape shifting aliens, The Skrulls.
I found this really interesting as The Skrulls were on the list of characters that Marvel couldn't use that were Fox owned , as they appeared first in an issue of Fox owned Marvel property, The Fantastic Four. A list I was trying to find for this article, but it seems to be lost to the internet right now.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn released some tweets today clarifying how Marvel can do this, and it makes sense, but I'm still thinking that this is merely part of a bigger plan. A plan for what comes next after Avengers:Infinity War. A movie that's being worked on right now and what Kevin Feige was quoted as saying what's coming next will be very different.

My theory on this is that the next movie after Infinity War will be..something Secret indeed.

Secret Wars. My theory is that this will be the next big thing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that it will be somewhat inspired by the 1984 maxi series that was the first big universe spanning comic book series for Marvel. And also that in this version of it, we will have, back at Marvel, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, side by side with Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, and the rest.

I don't know how or why this would work, but signs, such as X-Men becoming more prevalent in the comics again, as well as shows like Legion and Gifted being joint Fox/Marvel ventures, and the FF franchise failing to gain a foothold at Fox leads me to believe that there is a secret deal that's happened, and within a few years time, in Stan Lee's lifetime hopefully, we will see all of Stan and Jack's creations together, officially on the big screen together.

This could all be mere speculation, as Fox is going forward with a Dr. Doom movie from Legion showrunner Noah Hawley, and X-Men still making their own spin off movies, but we'll see what happens after Infinity War. In any case I'm sure it will be exciting.
