Like most of us who grew up in the 80s and 90s, Ducktales was a huge part of our childhood. Hearing that they were going to do a reboot at first left me worried, until I heard of the cast involved. That and learning the classic theme song would be left unchanged. From here on in, I was looking forward to this debut.
And now we finally have the first two episodes available to watch, so we can talk about it. The standard setup remains as well, Donald Duck leaves his nephews Huey (Danny Pudi-Community ) , Dewey ( Ben Schwartz- Parks and Recreation), and Louie (Bobby Moynihan-Saturday Night Live) off with Uncle Scrooge (David Tennant-Doctor Who) , and they go off on adventures alongside Scrooge’s pilot Launchpad Mcquack- (Beck Bennet-Saturday Night Live) and Webbigail Vanderquack (Kate Miccuci- Garfunkel and Oates) .
I really love this new reboot, it keeps the feel of the original, but updated to today’s writing standards that makes it fun for us grown ups who grew up with the original as well as kids just discovering this show. The cast is all fantastic, and even though I’m familiar with the cast in other roles, here they just feel like the characters, and the show just feels fresh and fun.
The animation style is different too, reminds me of a Carl Barks Scrooge comic come to life, and I love it. In an age where most reboots are bad ideas I’m glad to see one that works.
Ducktales will return with new episodes on September 27.
